I went to King Edward Hall VII in NUS. It's a hostel for the undergraduates. In short, it's KE7.
Well, it's pretty old. It was built in 1916. Gonna celebrate it's 90th anniversary soon.
Anyway, all the universities look alike. As in, they have this "old" look in them. Those tiles, way they are built... it can never be changed.
So we were treated to a short introduction of Hostel and NUS Life. I just realised that NUS actually places a lot of emphasis on sports as a CCA. Yes, you need a CCA in university. What a stupid policy.
Anyway, they have all kinds of sports as a CCA in KE7. I'm not exactly into sports. But cultural sounds ok. Erm, the committee for KE7 sounds exciting. They have different committees, such as social and welfare. But they said that joining a sport CCA will give double digits as CCA points while commmittee gives like single digits.
Then we had a sharing by a fellow undergraduate on hostel life, which I really wasn't interested in. So I was SMS-ing during the sharing.
Then we had a video by the dance club. They couldn't make it to KE7 itself because of other committments, so they played a dance video by them in freshman orientation. Erm, I fell asleep. Not really la. I just dozed off. I just couldn't force open my eyes.
It's not exactly their fault. I was watching some Korean drama serial until 3 a.m. in the morning. I woke up at 6 and met the SDP people (Hui Min, Kenneth, Kai Yuan) for breakfast at Admiralty, McDonald's. Ah, big breakfast was nice. Then we met Dian in Buona Vista. We played by luring Dian onto the escalator going up by going up ourselves, then when she was midway upwards, we took the escalator down. She couldn't find us and messages Kai Yuan. LOL. We told her we were downstairs and LOL.
Hui Min got cheated of her $1.10. She wanted to buy soy bean milk. She deposited all her coins inside and they all got stcuk and didn't fall into the machine. She couldn't get them out either. My ruler didn't help too. So she gave up and we went to another machine. There was no soy bean milk. Then we went back to the faulty machine and dialed a soy bean milk. LOL.
Then we had a rock concert by their own band, One word: Terrible. Haha. This girl singing "Toxic" didn't get me rocking... She was screaming into the microphone but the drums and electric guitar was louder than she was. Then there was this monkey who started jumping around like crazy (it wasn't planned to be like that, he just got too excited.) I was like, wth?? I thought there would be nicer singers later on. (They were to perform 4 songs.)
The second singer sang pretty okay at first. He wasn't shouting, it wasn't fast paced. Oh man, terrible mistake. He started shouting as well. I don't know what the song was, and I couldn't make out a single word either.
The third song was a grave mistake. It was a slow song with fast music. Bad combination.
The fourth song was by that girl again, "I hate myself for loving you". I changed the lyrics to "I hate myself for coming here... As if I had nothing better to do". You should have seen the student's expressions. There were none at all. We all just stoned and stared into space. I started laughing. I couldn't stop.
Dian and Hui Min just couldn't stop as well.
The wushu performance had nothing for me to laugh. Lucky them.
The solo performance by the XinYao group made me laugh too. That guy sang as if he was constipating.
The acapella was singing some tunes and I mimicked them. Dian had to tell me to stop.
Then we toured around the hostel. We first went to a basketball court where some people were playing hockey. We were told to join in. We had fun. Haha. Somehow they got me to "Exercise". LOL.
Then the tennis court... Not bad, but I don't know how to play tennis, so I gave up the chance.
We went to visit a single room... Not bad, though smaller. At least I will want the privacy.
Double room is much bigger, and I love the space that they have in KE7. 'Cos KE7 has the largest room in all other halls.
But I prefer the comfort of my own home where I can have the whole house to myself, and air-con as and when I like it. Not like in NUS when you feel too hot and you can't study and then you have to go down to the study room, though it saves a lot of time and money and is really damn convenient.
I still don't know where I will want to stay.
Then we went up to the 8th storey (no lifts!!!) to overlook the port. They said that Sheares Hall has lifts!!!
Then Kenneth (the guide) asked me, "Are lifts your priority?" Of course I'll answer no, despite the fact that I hate stairs. But he lives on the 5th floor though. I wonder the mess I'll go through when I forget my chemistry notes - run up; then realise that I forgot my physics notes - run up; but if it's maths, - forget it.
Then we went to the recreation room - not bad, but they need more billiard balls. And darts too. Board games, most importantly!!!
Next up was the gym... Hmm, a place I'll never visit. LOL.
Brenda and Kenneth, the 2 guides, had a misunderstanding - thanks to Hui Min and Dian - that I had a crush on that stupid monkey who jumped around in the concert. Seriously, I hate monkeys!!! Argh, my reputation already stinked before I even register for NUS.
The lounge is not bad, but canteen is perfect - looks like a cafe, homely and all, with AIR-CONS!!!!!! COOL!!!!
Then we went back home after filling up the survey forms. Erm, I tried my best to say that the band was "not bad".
