Insensitivity
Some people are just damn insensitive.
Today it was after school when I wanted to have lunch. Aisha and Mary were with me. Then, I saw one of my friends. I really wanted to ask if he was retained, because out of the many people who took the supplementary papers, only 1 passed.
It was purely out of concern.
Then, Mary called him over and we asked him. He was retained. I really felt sorry for him. Then David came over at the table.
I really wanted to talk to my friend because I knew that he will be upset, and that will need at least some comfortation. He's my friend for quite a few year already. In addition, he worked really hard for the Promotional Exam. He studied like, 2 months before the exam. Mary even said that when she comes to school, she will see him studying in the canteen.
But then David kept talking about lunch and brunch to me, completely leaving me no time to talk to my friend, and no time to listen to what Mary and my friend had to say. I could see that he's depressed. Wouldn't you be, if you were him?
Then he left after a short while. I didn't get to talk to him. I seriously hope that he didn't get the wrong idea. It's not because I didn't talk to him because he is a retainee. I would never do that. Instead, I felt sorry for him. Mary felt the same way too.
Then Grace came over. She asked what happened. Then she knew about my friend's sotuation and asked, "Is he from that XXXXXXXX school?" I said yes and she gave this, sort of, cannot-be-suppressed-laughter with the message: Can't be any good, people from that school.
Mary was really getting angry at David's remarks. About, retaining and things like that. She said that she felt like slapping him. I didn't say anything. I just felt tears welling up my eyes and the need to tear.
It's like, I am really sad for him. I know how hard he worked and how much he had changed. And I know just how much he would like to be promoted just like us. It doesn't mean that if we pass, we can ridicule at others. It doesn't mean that people from so-and-so school is bad and will never make it or something or can be looked down upon.
Some people are just damn insensitive.
