Studio

Yesterday and last Saturday, I went for this course... something got to do with sound engineering.

And I went to this studio yesterday. Somewhere in Eunos Industrial Estate. It's the place where artistes record their albums and such. I heard from Siva (instructor) that it's where Stephanie Sun and Taufik went too.

Then before that I guessed he was pretty angry. Why? I think he felt cheated. I would feel the same way too if I had been in his shoes.

The guy who called up his company told him that he was going to teach some broadcasters. He thought that we were people who really had a broadcasting station like Media Corp FM 933 whereby "we" would have satellites and etc.

But we didn't even have our own studio! It's under construction, and the teacher knew nothing about which hardware we are going to install and such. So he got angry more. He even got more angry when the teacher argued with him, and when we didn't do what he had in store for us.

Then he collected our movie clips and then talked to us about how to solve audio problems such as those screeching sounds that occur when the microphone comes near.

Then he asked us some questions. It appeared to be that no one was exactly listening to him and couldn't answer except for me.

Then Siva seemed to be extremely pleased with me.

Then he announced that later at the studio, he'll choose 2 assistants to be in the control room while the others will be in the recording room.

Ann was pretty sure that he would definitely choose me and Swee Shien. I thought so too...

And when we were there, he REALLY chose me and Swee Shien (that guy). That guy would be the music engineer (I was pretty relieved that I wasn't the music engineer, because I knew nothing about music and sounds.) and I would be the producer.

Cool, huh?

My job would be to get the people talk on the $8000++ microphone, get them ready, and cue them to talk and make sure that my final product will be of good quality. I can overrule the music engineer, and he can overrule me too, and while Siva would be the director and Ms Karen Tay as the Chairman (who can both overrule me too).

Oh, I stepped in and stopped Serene Koh from singing too much in the recording because it wasn't what should happen if a DJ has to introduce an artiste and invite her to sing. She only has to sing a chorus.

Yeah, I had great fun being a music producer. Maybe that will be my career in the near future.

Haha. Although what I did was just 25% of what a real producer has to do too.
