One Week Gone Just Like That

I still can't believe it. My recess week is over, and now it's school re-opening again.

Why do I always feel like crying whenever school is about to restart?

Anyway, about the birthday cake... I almost cried. My sisters have been making a joke out of it. I went to the bakery with my mum, and I was just browsing through the first photo album out of the 5 there was, the baker came out...

Baker: Ah, what is the cake for?

Mum: Birthday.

Baker: Whose birthday? Male or female?

Mum: Female. 21st birthday.

Baker: Ah. Don't have to browse through the catalogue la. I'll design one for you.

Me: (wide-eyed) Huh?

Shop assistant: Yeah, he's designed a lot of 21st birthday cakes. His designs are always very pretty. Trust him, just let him design it.

Baker: Yah. I'll design a round one, and with "21" on it and flowers around the "21".

Me: Erm, it's quite hard to cut a round cake and give it to 30 plus people.

Baker: Aiyah, just cut it like this, like that... (Makes handsigns) Round ones nicer. More elegant.

Shop assistant: The mum will be present right? Then the mum will cut it lor.

Mum: (looking at me) Well... Yeah I'll be there...

Me: (rolled my eyes)

Baker: For girl right? Then I'll design pink flowers against white background.

Me: (strongly protesting) Erm, can't it be blue? Must it be pink?

Baker: Blue is for boys la. Girls go for pink.

Me: (trying hard to have it my way) Then purple. Purple is quite nice.

Baker: Purple? It's for Malays and Indians la. Chinese go for red. So pink will be very beautiful one.

Shop assistant: Yah yah.

Me: (looking at the floor) Ok...

And so, this is how my birthday will look like. Unknown to everyone, even me, and it is so totally not my style. Pink and round. T_T

My sisters kept laughing at me. They agreed that pink is just so-not-me. Everything they broach the subject, I feel like crying. And I don't think there will be chocolates on the cake. I had actually wanted to have chocolate balls on the cake even though I don't love eating chocolates. And I wanted kiwi and peach slices on the cake. Nah. None will be there. I'm so depressed. Sok Hiang was like, "who's the birthday girl here huh?" I totally agree. How can he not respect the wishes of the birthday girl?!

When they asked, "Do you want to have your name written on the cake?" I was like, "Does it matter anymore? It's not even my cake. It's not even what I want." I looked at my mum, and at the shop assistant.

In the end, I put down my name anyway.
