Acting Against My Knowledge
Life is becoming more and more depressing. Life still carries on despite the fact that global warming can only be slowed down (yet it is not being slowed down as much as possible), fossil fuels are running low and the ozone hole getting bigger and bigger.
We hear lots of talks out there, telling people all sorts of dangers and threats that we are now facing and what we could possibly face in the near future. But are we taking any relevant action to solve the problem? I don't think so. At least, maybe I'm so ignorant that I haven't heard of any.
I believe in what the scientists have found. I feel it happening around me. I'm getting so paranoid that I have decided not to have kids if I ever get married in the future. I even think we should try to live as if we were back in the 90's. Like, replace whatever machines can do with manual labour. Things like sweeping away dead leaves... We can do it with a broom and a dustpan. Why use some device that blows air out from its big outlet to blow dead leaves together and then I-don't-know-what-happened-later. That device has to run on something right? Like, batteries? Or is charged by some electrical power before use? I saw this happening right in front of me in NUS. I mean, we sure can save some energy bill by asking the same person that handles the device to simply sweep the road. We are still paying the person to hold the device, why not ask him to hold and move the broom and dustpan? It's gonna be the same pay right? How much extra can a road-sweeper earn, whether he holds a broom and dustpan or that blowing device?
I'm digressing a little too far. My point is, I believe that carbon dioxide can cause global warming. But I'm still burning offerings on every 1st and 15th day of the lunar month. I don't know how much carbon dioxide I've created, but I can't help myself. I strongly believe in my religion and I will carry on the traditions no matter what.
Isn't it ironical? As I'm learning about the environment crises, I'm actually doing something that could possibly worsen the situation.
